New Jersey's Dennis Elwell On Trial.

July 5, 2011 at 2:15 P.M. "Errors" inserted overnight will now be corrected.

Peter J. Sampson, "Ex-Mayor in Court for Corruption Case Today," in The Record, June 20, 2011, at p. A-1.
"Nearly two years after his arrest in an unprecedented roundup of state legislators and local officials, former Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell goes on trial today, accused of conspiring to extort $10,000 from a developer [the newly-rearrested, Solomon Dwek] offering cash for approvals."
This typical N.J. story of corruption in politics is symbolic of what remains unchanged in a state where Ms. Guardagno is, allegedly and reputedly, "friendly" with Diana Lisa Riccioli as well as the Tacetta brothers: Double standards, sweetheart deals, behind-the-back politics and character assassination aimed at uncontrollable lawyers who will not do "favors" for politicians. All of this is business as usual in New Jersey. ("Corrupt Law Firms, Senator Bob, and New Jersey Ethics" and "New Jersey's Politically Connected Lawyers on the Tit.")
Mr. Christie must step up to the plate and accept responsibility for his state's hopelessly soiled reputation based on incompetence and corruption in what must be regarded as a failed legal system. ("Law and Ethics in the Soprano State" and "New Jersey's 'Ethical' Legal System.")
There is no painless alternative to the truth in this matter, Mr. Christie. Admittedly, truth is a stranger to New Jersey's legal proceedings -- especially when they are conducted "behind-the-backs" of their victims. We must deal with this situation honestly and freely, Mr. Christie. This is the only way in which we can all "move on." ("Terry Tuchin, Diana Lisa Riccioli, and New Jersey's Agency of Torture" and "An Open Letter to My Torturers in New Jersey, Terry Tuchin and Diana Lisa Riccioli.")
The continuing spectacle of corruption and farcical legal proceedings before bribed judges has made New Jersey a global byword for absurdity and crime in government. To avoid additional embarassment and further loss of respect and/or resources for the Garden State, it behooves the powers-that-be in Trenton -- powers on both sides of the law! -- to deal with this grotesque travesty of justice at the agency entrusted with enforcing legal ethics, such as they are, in New Jersey. ("New Jersey's Office of Attorney Ethics" and "Is America's Legal Ethics a Lie?" then "American Doctors and Torture" and "Psychological Torture in the American Legal System.")
"To date, 31 of the 46 defendants charged in the massive probe [of the state's mob-dominated court system] have pleaded guilty or been convicted at full trials. Among them are a state assemblyman, a Hoboken mayor, and two councilmen and a deputy mayor from Jersey City." (Again: "Law and Ethics in the Soprano State" and "Is Union City, New Jersey Meyer Lansky's Whore House?" then "New Jersey is Lucky Luciano's Havana.")
The vast majority of these persons are -- or were -- New Jersey lawyers, many having served (allegedly) on what is laughingly called the "legal ethics committee." ("American Legal Ethics Today" and "Richard A. Posner on Voluntary Actions and Criminal Responsibility.")
Lawyers and judges I know in New Jersey are ashamed of the state's dismal legal reality of mafia contamination and ineptitude. ("Stuart Rabner and Conduct Unbecoming to the Judiciary in New Jersey" and "No More Cover Ups and Lies, Chief Justice Rabner!" then "New Jersey's Legal System is a Whore House" and "New Jersey's Feces Covered Supreme Court.")
Good Luck, Mr. Elwell. Perhaps Alex Booth can call some of those witnesses for you or speak to his friends in politics on your behalf. Give my best to Mr. Booth, Howard Brownstein, Esq. and Robert Barry, Esq., who may be joining you on trial soon.
A list of numerous sources offering examples of political corruption in New Jersey over the last month will soon be added to this post and blog.
